Public money buys public value — services that work for the people they exist for, and keep working long after the project that built them has ended. There is no neutral spend: every dollar released at a funding gate — by an investment fund, a portfolio board, a treasury — either builds capability that compounds, or fragmentation that compounds faster. Gate processes are good at asking whether a project can be delivered. Almost none ask what it will leave behind. The Gate Check asks the question that should precede every release of funds.
Eighteen questions across the three FGX pillars — Leadership, Human Experience and Trust — read whether a project is G3 Ready, and what conditions attach to funding if it isn't.
| Gate | When | What runs | What it decides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate A | Before first funding | Full Check, forward-looking | Fund build, fund discovery only, or decline |
| Gate B | Each tranche release | Conditions sheet re-check, plus any test previously amber or red | Release the tranche or hold |
| Gate C | Before scale funding | Full Check re-run on evidence, plus benefits realised | Scale, remediate, or stop |
These carry onto the gate certificate. Score one project at a time.
Rate each honestly. If no one in the room can answer a question, that is the answer — score it red.
Write the conditions into the sheet below, then print to PDF. Every amber and red leaves the gate with an owner, a fix and a date.
Every amber or red leaves the gate with an owner, a fix and a date — and conditions are re-checked before the next release of funds.
